Blagoslovi Dushe Moya Gospoda (Bless the Lord, O my soul) - Rachmaninov Opus 37 All Night Vigil (Vespers).
Well, the symbolic 40 days of Lent have begun. Each day I plan on posting a musical composition I am obsessed with i.e. one I never tire of hearing. To begin, this haunting religious a cappella choral piece by Rachmaninoff, a man who, at this time (1915), had already stopped attending church services. Blagoslovi Dushe Moya Gospoda (Bless the Lord, O my soul) from Psalm 104 is the second of the fifteen movements in the All-Night Vigil which was composed in a mere 15 days or so. Have a look at imslp.org/wiki/Vespers,_Op.37 to get an idea of the volume of creativity this man had.
