Frédéric Chopin Nocturne in C-sharp Minor (posth.) — Lento con gran espressione

Used as the opening theme in the Movie "The Pianist".

Władysław Szpilman was playing Chopin’s Nocturne in C sharp minor (Lento con gran espressione) as the German bombs hit the studios of Polish Radio, interrupting its broadcast on 23 September 1939.

Chopin instructed that all his unpublished works be destroyed after his death, but thankfully his executors did not honor that request. Otherwise I would have to obsess about some other Chopin piece as my favorite.
