Robert Schumann described the variations of the passacaglia as "intertwined so ingeniously that one can never cease to be amazed.
The other day, I ran 72 minutes on the treadmill, while listening to eight differing versions of the Passacaglia some with and some without the Fugue. Now THAT'S an obsession.
Most normal people get tired of the incessant left hand after about 2 or three minutes, but I cannot seem to hear this piece enough. WOW!!
